Management dominated the mill village life in every way; in personal habits, in the political arena, and even the religious life of the mill workers. Between 1878 and 1910, mill housing was relatively primitive. Typical homes had four rooms and a hall and the mill owners expected occupants to provide at least one mill worker for each room.
